The Book Exchange, located on the first floor of the historic Old Flat Rock
Post Office, is a favorite source of used books (both hard cover and
paperbacks), new books, magazines, greeting cards and note paper for both
locals and visitors in the area. With the exception of consignment books,
greetings cards and note paper, all items we sell have been donated and ALL
PROCEEDS GO TO LOCAL CHARITIES. Besides paperbacks, books and magazines, we carry beautiful prints of historic Flat Rock homes by artist Cora Minty. We also have Flat Rock license plates and books on the history of Flat Rock by authors Sadie Patton, Galen Reuther and local historian Louise Bailey. “Card Houses,” by craftswoman, Dorothy Carey, are also very popular and make wonderful gifts. Carl Sandburg, American poet, historian, author, and lecturer spent the final 22 years of his long and productive life at his estate, Connemara, in Flat Rock, NC. Today this National Historic Site offers a keen insight on Mr. Sandburg, his family and their 264 acre working farm. The Sandburg Home was built in 1838 and now houses his collection of 10,000 books, notes and papers. The home offers daily tours and is closed only on Christmas Day. Our studio is located in the Singleton Centre in Flat Rock, North Carolina,
near Asheville and Hendersonville, in the heart of the mountains. The
Expressions Photography studio is owned and operated by award winning
photographer Bill Elder who brings nearly 30 years of experience in
capturing special memories with artistic style. Bill has a strong interest
in portraiture and in Black & White images for depicting the special
relationships among people. He has been perfecting his unique style of B&W
images of people for the past several years. The studio has gained a
region-wide reputation for portraits of families, children, weddings, and
seniors and for our black and white "Expressions Portraits". We are driven
to create fine art portraits that capture the essence of your personality

Festival celebrates it's eleventh year at Camp Ton-A-Wandah, Flat Rock, NC.
The Flatrock Rock Music Festival has enjoyed the respect of becoming a
premiere festival for all types of musicians. Intimately nestled in the Blue
Ridge mountains, the Flatrock Music Festival brings people and musicians
together from all over the southeast. There is plenty of room to stretch out
during a weekend packed with camping, music and children's activities. Come and hear over 30 musical acts in three days, impromptu jams and musicians of every age and talent. We welcome everyone who loves good music, great friends and are ready for an excellent weekend at beautiful Camp Ton-A-Wandah. We will have over 25 food and craft vendors. There are still spots available for volunteers this year. You can work two-four shifts and get a weekend pass with camping in exchange. We are looking forward to this being another great year. |

Since 1952 Flat Rock Playhouse has been thrilling audiences with Broadway musicals, comedies, dramas, and theatre for young audiences. The professional company recruits the finest talent with credits ranging from Broadway and national tours to regional theatres, from film to television. The season opens annually in May and continues through December with performances scheduled Wednesday through Sunday. In addition to the professional series of plays the You. Theatre educates students from kindergarten through adults and the Apprentice program prepares college students and graduates for a career in the performing arts. Formed in 1968, Historic Flat Rock, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to help preserve historic properties for future generations to enjoy. We have assisted in renovations, restorations and purchases in order to save significant properties from destruction or development, and we also have obtained historic easements on many properties through the generosity of their owners, and through outright purchase. Historic Flat Rock, Inc. is operated by a Board of Trustees that meets bi-monthly, and there is an annual membership meeting in August. The Historic Woodfield Inn was built in 1852, on 28 rolling acres as The Farmers Hotel. The Inn served as the first stage coach stop along the Old Indian Trail. During the Civil War, Confederate soldiers were garrisoned at the Inn to protect the Flat Rock community. After the turn of the century, the Inn was sold and renamed the Woodfield Inn. The Inn has been entered into the National Register of Historic Places. The Inn is located on NC Hwy. 225 South, Flat Rock. |
